Here’s the truth: leadership isn’t about a title, a corner office, or what seat you have at the table. It’s about the choices you make—every single day.

In our Foundational Leadership Development Program, we discuss the three powerful choices that define leaders. These are the kinds of choices that anyone—regardless of role or title—can make. Because leadership is a practice, not a position.

And making clear leadership choices is more critical today than ever, as we face an uncertain world full of rapid change.

Let’s break the three Leadership Choices down:

🟡 1. The Commitment Choice

This is where it all begins. Choosing to lead means raising your hand and saying, “I’m in.” I’m going to show up, take responsibility, and lean into the messy, human side of leadership.

Leading is different from doing. It requires you to step back and step up, rather than keep your head down and focused only on your own tasks.

Leaders know that they have an impact on others and on the business. They realize that the technical work is important, but that choosing to lead means putting work into context, considering strategy and realizing the impact of their behaviour beyond their work matters just as much as the tasks themselves.

You’re committing to being intentional about how you work, not just what you do.

🟢 2. The Philosophy Choice

What do you believe about people? About work? About what makes a great leader?

This leadership choice is about getting clear about what kind of leader you want to be. It’s the lens you look through when things get tough. Maybe it’s believing that people are doing the best they can. Maybe it’s committing to transparency, even when it’s hard. Whatever it is, that philosophy becomes your anchor. Your “why.”

In our leadership programs we examine beliefs, clarify Values, and get intentional about leading in a way that’s authentic to each person.

Because when you know what you stand for, it’s easier to commit to leading, even as we go through rapid, unrelenting change.

🔵 3. The In-the-Moment Choice

This leadership choice is all about those small, everyday decisions that add up over time.

Do you pause to listen, or power through the meeting? Do you choose curiosity, or jump to conclusions? Do you take the best path – or the easy one?

All of the little moments matter. Leadership isn’t about being on a stage or at the top of a hierarchy. It’s about those real-time choices that shape how others experience us

Every interaction is an opportunity to build or break trust. These in-the-moment choices can make all the difference.

So, Why Does This Matter?

Because in a world where change is constant and complexity is the norm, people are hungry for real leadership. Not the kind that’s handed out with a job title—but the kind that’s chosen with intention.

When you choose to lead, when you get clear about your philosophy, and when you choose—consistently—to lead with integrity… that’s where positive impact happens.

And the best part? Anyone can start. Today. With your next conversation, your next meeting, your next decision.

Let’s be the kind of leaders who choose consciously, show up with heart, and make work a little more human—one choice at a time.

If this message resonated with you and you’re looking for ways to help your team embrace these leadership choices, let’s talk. It’s what I love to do.
